Devil Child

This past week Jacob has discovered a "possessed" look in which he scrunches his nose, furrows his brow, curls his bottom lip, and pants loudly. It's 99% hilarious and 1% scary. Watch out, when Jacob comes a-crawlin' toward you looking like this he has every intention of taking a bite out of your shoulder. These pictures don't even begin to show just how crazy he looks. And, oh my, his eyes are even red!

In the Market

I'm no June Cleaver, but I do try to keep a clean house. And now I am on the hunt for the perfect vacuum cleaner. The one we currently have has served us well for the past several years, but now that Jacob is mobile I have found myself cleaning a bit more obsessively than in the past and our vacuum just can't keep up. So what should I get? Upright or canister? Bagless or conventional? Any specific brand that stands up the best to dog hair, cheerios, and dirt? Does spending more money really get a better product? Do you absolutely love, love, love your vacuum? Suggestions welcome!

Best of Three

With the stomach flu sabotaging our family, I figured Caleb was in the clear when the weekend came and he was still on top of things. Wrong-o. What started--and almost ended--as a lazy Saturday began to turn south after a quick trip through Panda Express. Chinese (is that what it even is?) makes me sick, but, for whatever reason, I needed to have it so we trekked over there for dinner. I felt miserable afterward, which is what I expected, but then the misery hit Caleb. He popped a few Gas-X and headed to bed. I followed shortly after only to be awakened by a sick-to-the-stomach husband. I retract my statement from earlier this week that I am getting over my fear of puke because, after last night, I clearly am not. So being the good, thoughtful wife that I am, I packed up shop, ditched my sick hubby, and headed to the futon on the other side of the house so as not to bear witness to those sights and sounds again. Sorry, sugar, you are on your own with this one. Or so I thought. Around 1 a.m. Caleb tracked me down and began describing an intense pain in his back that he couldn't shake. Kidney stones? Some sort of infection? I have no degree to diagnose these things, so I suggested we head to the ER and let the doctors take a look. When Caleb obliged to this idea, I knew he was feeling bad. So I wiped the zit cream off my face, gathered Jacob and Caleb, and off we went. Several tests, an IV, some drugs, and four hours later we were on our way back home. The doctor couldn't pinpoint anything wrong (relieving and frustrating at the same time), so he prescribed some anti-nausea medication (where was this stuff on Wednesday when I needed it?), told Caleb to take Tylenol for the pain and come back in if it doesn't go away. Caleb left the hospital wondering what was causing his pain and nausea, and I left wondering why real-life doctors are never as cute as the ones on TV.

Side note: Caleb is feeling better today. Tired and achy, but better.

Friday Dance Party

video

Bouncing, humping, dancing. Whatever you want to call it, Jacob loves to shake his groove thing!

Next in Line

Now I'm sick. And I think Jacob knows this because as I was lying on the floor in his playroom yesterday thinking that I might die, he crawled over to me, laid his head on my chest, then looked up and gave me the biggest, wettest, open mouth kiss on the cheek ever. He learned how to give "kisses" over the weekend. It really is the cutest thing, but perhaps this new "trick" came at a bad time with the germs and all.

Where's Jacob?

video

Our kiddo loves to open and close doors, and he has figured out how to make a game of it. I snagged this video today even though he is still not feeling his best. When not sick, there is a lot more laughing, smiling, and shrieking and this game can go on for upwards of a half hour. Fun!

Sick.

Jacob was sent home from Gramma Daycare this afternoon. The verdict, according to the pediatrician, is 24-hour stomach flu. Our poor kiddo threw up in just about every room of my parent's first floor (and lucky for the cleanup crew, a good portion of the vomit landed on me, him, and my mom). So we spent the afternoon laying in bed watching cartoons. I'm not gonna lie, before today, puke bothered me. A pat on my back for not retching next to our little guy!

Side note: I think we will forego the trauma of the flu shot next year as it obviously didn't work as intended.
