It’s kind of an annual thing.

Jacob. Barfing. On Thanksgiving. Three years straight. And while I am certain the first two were virus related, I know this one was sugar induced. Because every belly has a breaking point, and for Jacob it was roughly 47 cups of carbonated kool-aid punch. And this year I am thankful that my children have barfed enough in their lives to know how to get to the bathroom in time. It makes clean up a breeze.

Snow Day

School was called off on Sunday night for Monday on account of the snow and ice that we may get but never got. Which meant that I got to spend another day with the kids after spending 5 straight uninterrupted days with them over Thanksgiving break. Yeehaw. So we headed to the movies where we watched The Grinch, grabbed lunch at McDonald’s, and closed out the day at the sledding hill. In the words of Mason, “This was the best snow day ever!”

My pink bandit. This girl wasted no time belly sliding down the hill on this super fast sled. Older brothers make daring activities much easier to accomplish!

Snowboarding is easier said than done. Just ask Jacob!

Mason loved ramping his sled over the kid-created snow cliff. And I enjoyed watching everyone at the top of the hill!
And a special thanks to my parents who gifted the kids their boots before Christmas. Because without those boots, this would have been a very cold adventure!

Bits.

The highlights from busy-ish few weeks.

Football: Jacob’s team lost in the Championship Game. But to even make it to the Championship Game as a 6 seed is great! Jacob loves this sport and wants to trade in his flags for a helmet next year. He’s ready. Me? Not so much.

Conferences: As expected: Jacob needs to slow down but is incredibly respectful and helpful. Mason is a star student but could work on his neatness. And Camryn loves the idea of school but needs to spend less time chatting with friends during transitions. Important to note: Camryn’s handwriting 8 weeks into her first crack at school is neater than both boys’ current handwriting.

Snow: Enough to cover the ground, but not enough to cover up one last memory of summer.

Jacob: He and his partner crafted a catapult that shot farther than any other fourth grader’s catapult! He is so proud, and so are we!

Mason: Living life thiiiiiiis close to me dumping him in the middle of a dark forest. I have learned that is impossible to exist without at least one kiddo challenging my patience. This month, it’s this kid.

Camryn: Always fashionable. Even if it’s not always matchy-matchy. Own it, girl!

Halloween!

And a perfect day for it! The kids started out with the school parade, continued with class parties, and finished up with a neighborhood-wide candy collection.

{Camryn was Wonder Woman. I had no idea what inspired this costume as she knows nothing about the character. But after she told me her favorite part about the costume was the red lipstick it became very clear. She thought maybe she should bring her makeup to school in case she needed to reapply her lipstick. I insisted that she would be fine for the two hours she was away from home...}

{Mason was Javy Baez. Straight down to the gold chain and MLB tattoo on his neck. And of the 650 kids at school, he was the one and only! I love this kid’s creativity!}

{And Jacob, who was a Fortnite Skull Trooper. One of a million as demonstrated in this quick shot I took as his class paraded by. Thank goodness for some unique shoes to help him stand out!}

{And then off to collect candy. I volunteered to stay home to pass out candy. And drink wine.}
Caleb and the dads took the kids out trick-or-treating. Nothing more fun than being with all of your best friends on Halloween. I love our group!

{Three of a kind!}

{Mason! That expression!}

{These girls. Best friends depending on the minute.}

{After 3.5 hours, the boys arrived back home. This is a shot of Mason’s stash. Something seems not to fit with the others... Not pictured: Spaghettios, a can of chicken soup, and the pineapple juice distributed at the same house. Still laughing about this!}
And today I have exactly 3 hours to sort through and trash half the candy before my sugar monsters return home from school.

Bits.

Life is busy. Here we were...

Walking to school on National Walk to School Day. And about 12 hours before the weather turned!

Eating lunch every Friday with family. My mom and I take the littlest two cousins to McDonald’s on Fridays to celebrate surviving another week. Camryn has become quite cultured in everything fast food...

Going to the Mother-Daughter event at school where we spent a lot of money to surround ourselves with screaming girls while frantically trying to create a paint-and-take piece. Alcohol not included.

Here is Camryn about 5 minutes into her creation, and about 2 minutes before she ditched me for hide-and-seek with 200 hundred of her closest friends.

Lunch date with Alex, who has now professed his love to Camryn via post-it note on the bus. I’m assuming Carl, Alex’s older seat buddy, helped with the spelling just as much as Mason, Camryn’s seat buddy, helped with the reading.

Taking fall photos. And being glad that’s over with. All of us.

Playing football. Jacob’s team won the first round of playoffs 7-0 thanks in part to the kickoff Jacob returned for a TD! Way to go, Jacob!

Feeling all the fall feels.

Jumping in leaves. Notice the spectrum of clothing choices represented by the kids?!

Pre-Halloweening. At cheerleading class. I forgot that Cam was supposed to wear a costume so I used some quick mom wits to convince her she was dressed up as a ballerina at a cheerleading class. So silly it worked!
Next up: Halloween and round two of football playoffs.

Pumpkin Patching

Cottonwood Farms. Nine years and counting. It’s officially a tradition, folks.

{We take this picture. Every. Single. Year.}

{The zipline. The attraction Camryn was most looking forward to.}

{The rock wall. The attraction the boys were most looking forward to.}

{Mason finally made it to the top without wimping out. It’s a miracle!}

{The corn silo. Nasty as always. But a fan favorite, nonetheless.}

{We made it a solid 30 feet into the corn maze before calling it quits on account of mud.}

{The kids rode a camel for the first time. Because nothing says pumpkin patch like a camel ride. But, seriously, this was their most talked about attraction after we left. So there’s that. And to see the camel eat an entire ear of dried up corn was worth the steep price to ride.}

{And the train ride. Way more fun for some than others.}

{The new attraction: Alpine Slide. Steep but slow. Exactly Camryn’s speed.}

{The air pillow. A perfect way to practice gymnastics leaps and baseball slides alike.}

{And the hayrack ride. Out to a pumpkin patch with not many pumpkins. End of October will do that to ya.}
A perfectly sunny and crisp day spent on the farm!

Champs!

Fall ball has come to an end with Mason’s team finishing on top! They had a great season, winning all but their first game. It was fun to watch these kiddos learn and grow as a team. Way to go, Cubbies!
