Butterflies in My Stomach

For the past couple of weeks I have started to feel the baby move around. I love this stage because only I can feel the flutters, and no legs or arms are getting painfully wedged under my ribs. It's great!

Worst Idea. EVER.

I bought this super cute wrapping paper. With glitter. I should have known that there would be a glitter explosion on my family room floor when I wrapped the gift. Needless to say, I will be picking glitter off of my face, hands, clothes, couch, floor, the dog, etc. for about the next year. Consider this a pact with myself to NEVER make the mistake of caving in to glitter again. EVER.

Piece of Advice

I overheard Caleb say this last night, and it just struck me as funny: "Jacob, stab nicely." Odd when taken out of context, but a golden piece of advice when referring how to eat with a fork...

Field Trip

My mom and I took Jacob to the Children's Museum today. Saying that Jacob LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it would be an understatement. And what's not to love: Splashing in all kinds of water, playing with all kinds of toys and gadgets, and blow drying in the wind garden. It is a kid's dream! I'm thinking about buying a membership because this was serious entertainment for all of us!

A Compliment?

A salesman stopped by our house today, and, when I answered the door, she asked if my mom was home. I'm still trying to decide if I should be offended...

It's Official

We are enrolling Jacob in daycare beginning the Monday after Easter. It will be very part-time: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9-12. I am excited for him to have the socialization, not looking forward to him bringing home sickness, and am hoping that his teachers love him just as much as we do. The only part that is making this decision a bit easier is knowing that Caleb will be in charge of drop-off duty. No tears for me!

Hawkeye in Training

Jacob is learning the letters of the alphabet. I think he has the "I" (as in I-O-W-A) down pat. Or is it the "W"?

Little Hercules

Whether it be pushing, pulling, or carrying, Jacob loves to move dog dishes, laundry baskets, vacuums, strollers, chairs, garbage cans... You get the idea.

This Kid's Got a HUGE Noggin'

Jacob had his 15-month check up today and these are the details:

Weight: 21 pounds, 11 ounces
Length: 30 inches
Head: 47 cm

Percentile wise Jacob is short (17%), light (12%), and has a humungo head (44%). He kept busy during the appointment by walking around, playing with his toys, and eating his goldfish crackers. He took his shots like a pro and the doctor is pleased with his progress. Except... Jacob needs to speak up. Really. He points at everything and calls everything "that." But he should have a three-word vocabulary by now, so we will be working to expand on that. Literally.

What goes around, comes around.

Caleb is sick today and moping around. I don't doubt that he doesn't feel good, and I would feel bad for him except that I remember this ongoing conversation between him and I from not too long ago. So I did what any considerate, pregnant wife would do. I told him to pretend that he is the one who is pregnant and doesn't feel good, suck it up, and deal with it. Karma's a bitch, ain't it, Caleb?!

Butt(er) Head

Tonight's bath was supposed to be optional ... then a dollop of butter en route from the counter to the skillet landed on Jacob's head...

Pictures from another rainy day.

The Seasons are A'Changin'

Sunny and 70 degrees yesterday. Raining with thunder today. The birds are chirping, and I think the rabbits are back to snacking in my flower beds. Yep, spring is on its way.

Wrapped Around His Finger

When it comes preparing for napping and bedtime, Jacob is quite the wiggle worm. I try to rock him and read him books to settle him down a bit, but all he wants to do is point at, reach for, and grab things which tries my patience. And every time I give up, carry him over to his crib, and tell him that it's nap time, the little booger goes completely limp and lays his head on my shoulder as if to buy more time before the inevitable. And it works. Every. Single. Time. Who isn't a sucker for a cuddly baby boy?!

Sold!

At 2 this afternoon, it was a done deal: We sold our townhouse! After our tenants unexpectedly moved out in January, we decided to throw the ol' house on the market to see what happened. And 10 days after we listed it, we had an accepted offer. Things moved super fast, and, well, except for the sentimental value that Greyson Lane will always hold, I am excited to wash my hands of that chapter in our lives. Hip-hip-hooray!

This makes me happy.

Daffodils have begun to sprout in our flower bed. Spring has sprung!

My Space

Caleb and I went to see Cop Out last night (good movie, but not the point of my story). So about 15 minutes before the previews began, and in a half-empty theater, this couple sits down near us. I say near because I always put my purse in the seat next to me to avoid having my personal space invaded by strangers. The man goes on to ask if anyone is sitting in the seat that my purse is in. I say no, and move my purse thinking that another couple might be joining them. But, no, I was wrong. Instead, this man just helps himself to the seat that my purse was occupying. Seriously? Am I the only person out there who feels it's a bit invasive to sit on top of strangers at the theater when there are clearly several seats available?! Whatever happened to respecting other people's space? And don't even get me started on how he blew (loudly) the salt off of each piece of popcorn before he shoveled it into his mouth. (The irony in that situation is that all of the popcorn comes unsalted; patrons have to add salt to it themselves. So if you know you are going to be huffing and puffing the salt off, then why do you think you should put it on in the first place?!) But all things considered, a good movie and a good date with the hubby.

Souvenir

Jacob says: My Grandma and Grandpa went to Florida, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt... FROM WALGREENS. Geesh, guys, you could have at least picked me up something from somewhere that is not on every street corner in Illinois! But thanks for thinking of me. Mom says I have to wear this shirt but not to worry, my belly is almost too big for it.

Perfection

Moments like this remind me just how perfectly precious my little devil really is, and what a gift I have been handed. It makes me realize that all of the sacrifices, messes, and tears (from both of us) are so worth it. How lucky am I to be a mom?!

Side note: Check out the it's-not-scrubbing-off freckle on Jacob's right pinkie. Where did that come from?!

On the Go

It's inconsistent. It's out of control. But it's walking. And Jacob is making great strides at becoming an expert in the field.
