Winter in the City

We unofficially wrapped up Christmas Break with a very warm day in the city doing all things winter.
Part 1: Skating at the Ribbon.
This has been on my bucket list for the past several years, and we cashed in on a 50 degree day to finally cross it off the list. Who knew that we could actually skate outside in Chicago without jackets on a January day and complain about the heat? It was warm! Camryn loved it, Mason enjoyed it, and—after he stopped complaining about how bad he was—Jacob got the hang of it. Lots of tumbles, but a good time nonetheless! And after reading horror stories about the 2+ hour wait in line to rent skates, I bought everyone their own pair the day before we went. So glad I did because the line was long!

And after spending more than an hour skating around the 1/4 mile loop, we took off our skates and the kids killed some time on the playgrounds at Maggie Daly park—always a crowd favorite.
Then on to our evening destination.
Part 2: Lincoln Park Zoo Lights.
This was the last weekend to take in the zoo post-dark all lit up in lights. And with warm weather and no wind, we were able to leisurely walk around and take it all in without freezing off our booties. Perfect!

{We arrived with daylight to spare, so we were able to see some of the outdoor animals before it got too dark.}

{Maybe my favorite part of our zoo trip: Spending a very long time eating dinner and sharing riddles and brain teasers with each other. Lots of thinking and lots of laughing!}

{A quick picture of these monkeys in the monkey house.}

{The kiddos were running on empty by the time we were wrapping up our walk through the zoo. I caught Jacob lying on this bench, and the other two made themselves comfortable also!}

{A blurry look at what we saw. Love!}

{It is a rule that Camryn must take a photo with any and all “mingos.” Check!}
We were home and all in bed by 7:30, without a single complaint by anyone. It was an awesomely exhausting adventure!
Best day yet of 2019!
