St. Thomas: Day 2

 December 17.

We were all very excited for the sun to rise so we could see our resort in daylight. The roosters were right on cue with the sun, and we were up and at ‘em!

{The view of Sapphire Beach from our condo. No filter! There are so many little islands scattered about, and St. John is also visible from our balconies. I say balconies because we have the top two stories of the condo, with a balcony on each level. Fancy!}

There were several mini-rain showers that pushed through during the day. Nothing that lasted more than a few minutes, and nothing that slowed down our plans. And we caught some rainbows along the way!

The kids wasted no time jumping in the ocean to see what kinds of fish they could find while snorkeling. And almost as fast as they got into the ocean, they got into the pool. So much water. So little time!

{There is a little bit of land that juts out into the ocean, so the boys explored that a bit. When they got back, they happened upon this guy. Certainly won’t be the last iguana we see while here!}

After lunch, we headed downtown to do some exploring. Happily, there wasn’t any cruise ship traffic, but that also meant that attractions were closed. So we had to shift gears and come up with some alternate plans. We found these 99 steps to climb to look out over the island. Or was it 101 steps up and 102 steps down? We clearly lost count or can’t count…

Our favorite things from today:
Caleb: Mom’s excellent directions. (Probably being sarcastic)
Morgan: Watching the kids fearlessly get in the ocean to snorkel.
Jacob: Seeing the “Golden Dory” while snorkeling, because I have never seen that colorful of a fish in the ocean before.
Mason: Swimming in the clear Caribbean water.
Camryn: Walking up the 99 steps, and seeing the fish in the water, and getting the white Jeep.

Side note: Camryn has been obsessed with white Jeeps recently, so we jumped at the chance to rent a Jeep while on vacation. The surprise was quickly dashed when they told us that they didn’t have our Jeep, but could give us a Nissan Rogue instead (which may have been an employee’s car…) Tired and hungry, we desperately took whatever they could give us, and the rental manager called us the next day to tell us they had a Jeep for us if we wanted to trade. You bet we did. And it turned out to be white! Making our kids’ dreams come true is our mission.
