After our hard drive crashed in August and we lost EV-ER-Y-THING we had on our computer (except for pictures, which I saved to a flash drive each month, thank goodness!), I realize that it's time we come up with a better system. But I have no idea what's available. So, question. How do you do back up your computer?

We (and by we I mean Scott) put everything on an external hard drive. Although I think some of the online services seem like a good option too.
The more places you have copies the better. My setup might be a little overboard for your taste, but it works for my needs. I have two main drives, one for my operating system and programs and the other for all my files (pictures, music, video). This way if a program crashes my main drive, the media is separate. That media drive is then backed up to two separate external drives, and also an online account (Mozy). I also occasionally burn DVD's of the important stuff and store them at family members houses. So in total I have 4 different backups.
My advice to you is invest in both an external drive and an online account. That way if something happens to your computer you will have everything on the external drive for a quick and easy backup. If something more drastic where to happen to your home, then you would have an offsite backup.
Oh, Eric. You are CRAZY! But so incredibly smart to have things saved off location. Looks like I have some work to do!
